FAQ
Got specific questions?
I have an app idea, but I’m not technical. Can Techne still help me?
Yes. You do not need to arrive with a technical brief, wireframes, or a list of features.
We work with founders from the idea stage. The first step is to understand the problem you want to solve, who the product is for, and what the first version actually needs to achieve.
From there, we can help turn the idea into a clear product structure, user flows, wireframes, prototype, technical plan, and ultimately a production-ready product.
The goal is to make the technical decisions understandable before you commit significant time or budget to development.
What should I have prepared before speaking with Techne?
As much or as little as you currently have.
Some founders come to us with one paragraph describing an idea. Others already have research, competitor examples, sketches, Figma designs, or a detailed brief.
If you only have an idea, we can start with a discovery conversation and help structure it.
If you already have a brief or designs, we can review what exists, identify gaps or technical risks, and work from there rather than making you start again.
What happens after I share my app idea with you?
We first make sure the product is clear enough to build.
That usually means understanding the user, the problem being solved, the core workflow, the features required for the first release, and any technical dependencies such as payments, maps, APIs, AI, or third-party platforms.
From there, the project can move through product design, technical planning, development, testing, and launch.
We would rather resolve unclear decisions early than discover them after weeks of development.
Do I need a technical co-founder or CTO before building my startup?
Not always.
Some startups need a technical co-founder early, while others need experienced technical guidance before making that decision.
Techne HQ can act as a fractional CTO partner, providing senior technical guidance, architecture decisions, development priorities, and engineering oversight when you need experienced support without immediately building a full internal team.
This helps founders make better technical decisions, reduce unnecessary complexity, and move forward with a clearer product direction.
Can Techne help me validate my MVP before development starts?
Yes.
A common mistake is building too much before confirming what users actually need.
We help founders clarify the core problem, define the first version of the product, identify essential features, and create a realistic technical plan.
The goal is to build enough to learn from real users without unnecessary development effort.
What is the best way to start building my first product?
Start with clarity.
Before writing code, founders should understand: • Who the product is for • What problem it solves • What the first version needs to prove • What technical requirements could affect development
We help turn early ideas into structured product decisions, technical requirements, and a practical development roadmap.
Can Techne review my existing idea, prototype, or technical plan?
Yes.
Many founders already have Figma designs, prototypes, AI-generated builds, or technical documents before speaking with us.
We can review what exists, identify risks, and recommend what should be improved before further investment.
The goal is not to restart unnecessarily, but to make better technical decisions.
How much does it cost to build an app?
There is no reliable fixed price for “an app” because the cost depends on what the first version actually needs to do.
A simple product with a few core workflows is very different from a platform involving payments, real-time data, AI, complex user permissions, third-party integrations, or custom backend systems.
Before development begins, we work with you to define the scope clearly enough to provide a written quotation.
The important part is not adding every possible feature to version one. It is identifying the smallest useful product that can be launched, tested with real users, and improved from evidence.
How long does it take to design and build an app?
It depends on the scope and complexity of the product.
A focused first version can move much faster than a platform with multiple user types, complex integrations, custom infrastructure, or significant technical dependencies.
We normally separate the work into clear stages so you can see what is being decided, designed, built, and tested rather than waiting for one large delivery at the end.
Once we understand your idea and required first release, we can give you a much more realistic timeline.
Is Techne only suitable for startups with large budgets?
No.
Early-stage startups usually need careful technical decisions because resources are limited.
We focus on helping founders prioritise what matters, avoid unnecessary complexity, and invest development effort where it creates the most value.
The right technical approach is not always the biggest one. It is the one that matches the product stage and business goals.
Can Techne work with my existing developer or development team?
Yes.
Techne can support founders who already have developers, freelancers, or internal teams.
We can help review architecture, clarify technical direction, identify risks, and provide senior engineering input when additional experience is needed.
We work alongside existing teams rather than replacing them by default.
Do you design and build the whole product, or can you work with what I already have?
Both.
If you are starting from an idea, Techne can support the process from early product thinking and UX/UI design through to engineering, testing, and launch.
If you already have Figma designs, wireframes, a prototype, PRD, or an existing codebase, we can review them and continue from the appropriate stage.
We do not require founders to repeat work that is already useful. We first determine what can be kept, what needs clarification, and what may create problems during development.
I already have an app, but the development has gone wrong. Can Techne take over?
Yes.
We can review an existing product or codebase to understand what is working, what is creating risk, and whether the best option is to continue, refactor, or rebuild specific parts.
Common problems include unstable releases, slow performance, unfinished features, poor architecture, undocumented code, broken integrations, or a previous development team that can no longer support the product.
The first step is to understand the current state of the product before recommending more development.
Will I own the designs, source code, and product Techne builds?
Yes. Your product should remain your asset.
Project ownership, source code, design files, repositories, access, and relevant intellectual property arrangements should be clear from the beginning of the engagement.
If you want to protect your idea, business information, designs, or product documents before sharing them with us, we can sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) before the discussion begins.
We build products so founders are not dependent on a hidden codebase or a development partner that controls access to their own software.
Should my first app be built for both iOS and Android?
Not automatically.
The right approach depends on who your users are, what the product needs to do, your budget, performance requirements, and what you need to validate first.
For some products, a cross-platform framework such as Flutter or React Native can make sense because much of the application can be shared across iOS and Android.
Other products benefit from native development or a different technical approach.
We recommend the architecture based on the product rather than forcing every founder into the same technology.
What makes Techne different from a traditional software agency?
Techne works as a technical partner for founders, not only a team that writes code from a specification.
We combine product thinking, senior engineering experience, and hands-on implementation support to help founders make better technical decisions throughout the product journey.
For early-stage startups, this means having access to experienced engineering guidance, similar to working with a fractional CTO, without needing to build a full internal technical team from day one.
